This might be the most beautiful beach on the Big Island. We loved the calm beach and snorkeling right off the beach. This is a classic hotel and you can see why families come back year and after year. We also really loved the statues and art they have here. Can't wait to do this again!

Loved the Mauna Kea! Only here for 2 nights but so happy we came here. We stayed in a beach wing room on the 3rd floor. Great view from the patio and wonderful beach access. Room was good size with a 2 sink very large bathroom. The beach is spectacular. We had one day with not much in the way of waves so great for snorkeling near the reef.

We had a great family vacation here in June. The beach was absolutely amazing. Best in Hawaii that I've been to. We spent hours and hours just floating in the calm and warm waters surrounded by that crescent beach. The property is well maintained and the architecture is really cool. The food at Mantis was outstanding. The staff was great! You could tell that people have been coming here for years and the staff treated the guests like family and vice versa.

Everything throughout the property was spotless and clearly well cared for. My whole family was genuinely touched by the way the resort honors its heritage - you can really feel the respect for the original design and history, all while embracing beautifully modern updates. The grounds were stunning, even with the renovations in progress, and the beach is truly to-die-for - a major highlight of our stay. With the pool temporarily closed, we didn’t feel like we missed out at all because the beach experience was so exceptional. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished pools and spa on a future visit! Re: dining, we tried every outlet and were impressed by both the variety of cuisines and the range from casual to more refined options. Each spot had its own character and purpose, and the dining overall really hit the mark.
